HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

I enjoy spending time gardening and preserving foods that I grow. I have a rambunctious cat named Cletus that keeps me pretty busy. In my down time you can find me reading a good book or watching a tv series with a cup of tea. I enjoy spending time with family and friends as often as I can.

TRAINING AND CREDENTIALS

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who is experienced with working with a wide range of clients, including individuals and couples. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2017 where I completed an internship with a Substance Use Intensive Outpatient Program affiliated with a Drug Treatment Court program. Along with my studies in marriage and family therapy, I completed a graduate certificate in multicultural counseling.  After graduating I continued my work with individuals struggling with substance use and was the primary therapist for a rural Intensive Outpatient Program and facilitated advanced access crisis intervention in community mental health facilities. I then went on to work in private practice working with individuals and couples in the Wilmington, NC area.

AREAS OF CLINICAL INTEREST

I often see clients who are experiencing depressed mood or anxious feelings related to overall life transitions and frustrations with the relationships in their life. My work with individuals focuses on the stories that we share with ourselves and others about the challenges we experience and finding helpful ways to create these stories in a way that is more beneficial to the individual.  With most of my clients I incorporate elements and techniques from CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and The Gottman Method.  My work with individuals is often addressing those struggling with substance use and the difficult decisions about what steps to take to reduce harm. I also work with individuals who identify as LGBTQIA2S+ by providing a safe and understanding environment to manage life stressors or to help navigate the world as someone with a diverse identity. I am also trained in the Gottman Method of couples therapy and work with couples on navigating conflict in a healthy manner and working on establishing a closer bond in the relationship. I help these couples by providing a safe space for them to explore and navigate conflict and provide new tools to help communicate more effectively.
